- As you can hear opinions that Jerzy Janowicz is a star of the only one tournament and he won't achieve anything anymore. It makes you laugh or you get angry?
Anna Janowicz: - It doesn't makes we laugh at all. It hurts us. We spend a lot of time to bring our son to this result. He also worked hard to get into the final in Paris, semi-finals at Wimbledon and increase to 14th place in the ranking. It hurt us that now when he have a weaker period of time we hear that it all was accidental achievements.
Jerzy Janowicz senior: - I don't understand opinion that the third round of Australian Open, Roland Garros or Wimbledon ie this year's results of our son are failures. But it's result in polish tennis about which we could only dream of. And Jerzy has achieve it, struggling with injuries and with out preparing before the season, because he had treated his foot.- Jerzy said that he don't care about that he is now in 50th place in ranking. Is it really true?
AJ: - He doesn't want to care about that. He know that he shouldn't think about it because it makes just extra pressure. We also don't speak with him about it.
JJ: - It's matter of his health. He came back to form already. It's a few tournaments in front of him, in which he won't defend any points, so particularly one successful performance will allow him to return into first 30 places in the ranking. If only his health will be fine...
AJ: - I think that Jerzy doesn't worry about his position in the ranking. He worries about his health. Recently, unluckily it happened because when he was getting back to form, he had got some injury. First: injury of spine, then cracked bone in his foot. Is teasing him also elbow injury which lasts long time. Now inflammation in his foot.
- Durning French Open Jerzy said that he also had personal problems. He didn't wanted to reveal particulars...
JJ: - And immediately one of newspaper wrote that Jerzy plays bad because we're getting divorce. It's complete nonsense, like other gossips disseminated by unkind to us people. For example my son is playing not good because instead of practicing he's partying or he have a crisis because a girl left him.
AJ: - We know about what personal problems he was talking about but we don't want talk about it.
- Experts often point that Jerzy need a mentor. Someone like Ivan Lendl.
JJ: - But we really want that Jerzy could work with Lendl or McEnroe. But these are huge costs, millions. Whatever, money isn't the biggest problem here.
AJ: - Jerzy doesn't want to leave the country. He's very related with Poland and Łódź, where he have excelent conditions for training. And Lendl would come to Łódź? We get a lot of suggestions to work with different trainers, but it's all going on about that my son have to leave permanently to the United States or Monte Carlo. Currently he's going well with his trainer (Kim Tiilikainen). So we're not going to chanche anything.
- And what about double servis faults? At Wimbledon he made that 47 times in three matches. He beat competition in this statistic.
JJ: - It's because of the elbow. He's subconsciously afraid of the pain and not suitable the rotation of the ball, as usual. Although it's just our theory.
AJ: - Please believe me that we don't talk about such topics with him. At home must be the same positives. It's not like that we say: " Jerzy, maybe you serve so bad because your elbow hurts you." We talked with a psychologist to find out how we parents of professional tennis player, should behave when the son arrives after the failure. He advised us that if he doesn't want to talk, you absolutely should not force this on him. Sometimes it is that your son has a need to talk about the matches. It comes out from him. There are tennis players, who immediately after the failure in the locker room have to disscus with trainer the whole meeting. Jerzy isn't like that. He's going bad over failures but at the beginning he's keeping emotions inside of him. Then he often watch matches on the web and analyzes them.
- After losing with Tommy Robredo at Wimbledon he made it clear that he doesn't want to talk to the media.
AJ: - I think he is very disappointed on journalists after the press conference after the Davis Cup. The attacks on him were terribly acute, like he has commited a crime .
JJ: - That's because he prefers now to speak as little as possible. He's afraid that he'll be bad understood again.
AJ: - Jurek feels great, who journalists are acommodating for him and who don't. If my son after losing the match against Robredo at Wimbledon hears the question that is bothered him gathering darkness, when everyone knows that he has astigmatism, playing with lenses and seeing worse when it's dark, what should he answer? what sholud he say when he get question that is stopped him that suddenly when he thought that because of rain he won't play today, he was summoned in the evening on court and fought with Robredo without warming up? It's obvious that it disturbed him. He took this questions as harassment of player who fail. Recently in one of articles about us I read that I was a basketball player, and one of the first trainers of Jerzy was Jan Walkow. How to judge the accuracy of this journalist, since both information is incorrect? By the way, I was a volleyball player.
- Jurek said once that he cares much on the fans, and on journalists not at all. But you can't separate these two things ...
AJ: - Yes, and he understand it well. He knows that if the redactors write negatively about him, his bad image will arrive to his fans. I think that Jurek has also grief about that if he lose, the media are giving a negative atmosphere. Instead information about the failure and reliable analysis, fall such slogans as "disgrace", "disaster", "failure".
- The same thing said Agnieszka Radwanskadefending Jerzy.
AJ: - Exactly. Agnieszka learned how to contact with the media. Some things still surprise Jerzy. The situation is exacerbated through the conference on the Davis Cup. Earlier he had good relation with journalists, with many of them still have good relation. I think he's worried that it went so far . One thing I want to emphasize: I do not want to go to war with the media and the son also does not want that. This war makes no sense.
- People take it differently, that the father is also vice-president of the Polish Association of Tennis. You can hear voices that he is in the PAoT just to pull out benefits for his son ...
AJ: - Just what benefits? What we can for Jurek PAoT out? Son needs now only health, peace, and nothing more. We wanted to share their knowledge with others, because this route has already passed. We have something more than experience an activist or manager.
JJ: - We know what must be done to children who have a chance to be the successors of Agnieszka, Jurek and Łukasz Kubot, had easier way, how to select the training, tournaments. I don't have a relationship with a penny. I work for free, I don't have an official phone for meetings or competitions I reach for his. Now we can afford it, and I prefer that the money went to the children. In Lódź therefore spared compared with the previous authorities 20,000 zloty a year. As a result, more went to the youngest tennis players.
- Speaking of funding. When Jurek criticized the policy of the state with respect to athletes, sports minister Andrzej Biernat said that Janowicz is a terrible ingrate, because if you could take all the money that he got from the state, would be accrued a substantial amount.
JJ: - Money, which the minister said, is a drop in the ocean. And all that son got from the state, and gave it a surplus, paying taxes. He could like other tennis players to go to a tax paradise in Monte Carlo and there to settle. But he does not want to do because he is a patriot.
AJ: - For example, the Australian Open can pay tax in Australia, or add up the costs, and thus settle in their homeland. Jurek did so. Why is this tax to leave for abroad when he can pay it in Poland? Maybe some of this money will get young tennis players.
